Education
Bachelor's Degree in Social Ecology
University of California, Irvine
When attending UC Irvine, I had the opportunity to work with students at their Farm School, which is an alternative learning school. During this time, volunteering at Lighthouse Learning Center tutoring program allowed me to begin working with students in different subject areas before earning my credential.
Multiple Subject Clear Credential
California State University, Fullerton
Working through the teaching credential program was the best part of college. While in the program, I was able to student teach in a 2nd grade and 6th grade GATE classroom, which gave me a solid foundation.
Hi there, I’m Arika.
I'm looking forward to working with your family to keep you and your students on track.
Official Bio . . .
Teaching for the past 20 years has allowed me to gain more understanding of how each individual student learns. I have K-6 experience with public, private, charter and homeschooling students.
It's fun to work with each student individually to find out how they learn best and then incorporate that into their lessons. Are they visual, auditory or kinesthetic? Let's use teaching strategies that will combine their learning style to the new concepts presented.
While working with elementary students, I am able to make learning interesting and fun through one on one attention and giving positive encouragement. Students will be more confident and knowledgable after we work on their lessons together.

Bio in real time . . .
After years of educating at home, I’m just about to graduate my second (and final!) daughter from homeschooling—aka, I’m officially retiring! Woohoo! (Celebrate, celebrate, dance to the music) With one kid in college and one kid headed to college, I’m suddenly asking myself, What do I do with all this free time… who do I pour into... should I pick up a hobby?
That’s where you all come in! I love teaching, I love creating, and I love encouraging others to stay the course—because let’s be real, homeschooling is a marathon, not a sprint. So now, I’m taking on a new challenge: passing along the lessons I’ve learned along the way during this grand homeschooling experiment with you. Let’s talk, have tea, swap stories, and stay motivated all the way through!
